Pre class response 2 - Excerpts from genesis

The Sign of the Covenant (Genesis 17:1-25)

'No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.'

Renaming of a person generally signifies their transition into another religion therefore, Abram's change into Abraham signifies him transitioning into a man/worshiper(?) of Yahweh.

In this quote, Yahweh promised to make Abraham into a man of great importance by telling him that his sons shall be kings.

The whole context of this text seems to be about the covenant between Yahweh and Abraham, which appears to have been kept.

Abraham did become a man of great importance as Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are also known today as 'Abrahamic religions'. (Based on my contextual knowledge)

Further to this, circumcision is also a common theme in Abrahamic religions today which suggests to me that Abraham did keep his side of the deal towards Yahweh and honored the covenant.
